First flight off the new terminal in Watertown took place Thursday

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- This past Thursday was a monumental and historic day for the community of Watertown as the first official flight out of the new terminal took off.

KXLG News went on the road to the new terminal to cover the first flight and do the segment “From the Halls of the City Hall” live from the airport! We had City Manager Amanda Mack and Public Works Director Heath VonEye on this morning’s show.

A topic of discussion has been the unique ceiling in the airport.

The only restaurant in the terminal is Danger Von Dempseys, and everyone is pretty excited in that area.

Last night was the final flight into the former terminal, the passengers unloaded at the old airport, and this morning, the plane was taxied and ready to load in the new terminal for its first flight out.

The City should be proud of this complete project.

City Manager Mack says the hope is the continue growing enplanements and bring people to Watertown. KXLG News also asked about the “Meet the Superintendent” event at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center with Theresa Hillis.

Mack says they interviewed 11 applicants but received several more applications than they interviewed and received from internally, within the community, and out of state. VonEye also makes a plug to any teachers or groups that would like a tour of the wastewater facility to contact Mike Boerger, who will give an excellent, educational, and exciting tour.
