YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Wind power farms being built across the region often have a built-in outlet, selling their power to an existing utility company.
Jim Williams, Director of Thermal and Wind Generation for Northwestern Energy, says in many cases, they have to accept the power from wind farms in their region.

Williams says wind power won’t make up a major part of their overall generation.
Williams says they have to balance the costs and benefits of each wind power project.
About 25 percent of the power produced in South Dakota now comes from wind farms.
