OMAHA, Neb. (WNAX) – High water releases from Gavins Point Dam on the Missouri River near Yankton will continue for much of the summer. Flows are currently at 75,000 cubic feet per second.
Kevin Grode, a hydraulic engineer with the Corps of Engineers in Omaha, says the reservoir system has seen record run off.
Grode says they saw run off spike earlier this year.
While there have been comparisons to the flood year of 2011, Grode says there are some big differences.
Grode says with high run off on tributaries and saturated soils, any additional rain may increase the flows from Gavins Point Dam.
