PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – Over the weekend Mexico reached an agreement with the United States over immigration that will keep tariffs from being placed on Mexico. South Dakota Pork Producers Council Executive Director Glenn Muller says Mexico is the top market for U.S. pork and keeping those tariffs off is critical in avoiding any retaliation that would further damage trade.
He says Mexico is an important destination for American hams.
Now that the tariff escalation has been avoided, Muller says it’s critical the U.S. move ahead and ratify the USMCA trade agreement.
Today, President Trump said that if Mexico doesn’t follow through with the agreement reached over the weekend he will place the tariffs on them.
