PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has released a rule proposal designed to update biotechnology regulations. The Trump administration calls it a balanced approach that protects plant health while allowing agricultural innovation to thrive. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Doug Noem is pleased to see the agency moving forward with common-sense regulations.

He gave an example that when given a choice, consumers chose GMO or Biotech products over the alternative because they’re more environmentally friendly.

Noem says it’s always better to have choices.

This rule will enable APHIS to evaluate genetically engineered organisms for plant pest risk with greater precision than what the current rule allows.
