HJR5004 clears the South Dakota House

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A Joint Resolution that would place a constitutional amendment on the ballot to allow work requirements to be placed on those receiving Medicaid benefits passed the House this week on a vote of sixty to eight.

House Assistant Minority Leader Erin Healy of Sioux Falls says its another attempt to distort the will of the voters.

Voters approved the amendment authorizing the Medicaid expansion last November.

Healy says the expansion was placed on the ballot as an amendment to avoid legislative meddling.

Healy says expanded Medicaid is aimed at people who are working but can’t afford insurance.

The resolution will next go to a Senate committee.
