KXLG (Lake Poinsett, SD): One of South Dakota’s largest public lakes, Lake Poinsett in Brookings and Hamlin County is still four and half feet over full according to Hamlin County Emergency Management Director Dave Schaefer, however water levels are dropping.
He said Hamlin County was included in the first disaster declaration.
Schaefer said there’s considerable property damage around Lake Poinsett, but by far its shoreline damage that’s most significant.
Despite the high water, Schaefer said the State Park, resorts, and other businesses are open again, but the no-wake zone remains in place.
