BROOKINGS, SD (WNAX Radio): The South Dakota Board of Regents held what they are calling a “conversation” about intellectual diversity at their meeting at SDSU in Brookings. (today – Wednesday)
The Board must implement a new policy on diversity mandated by the legislature.
Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls was one of the prime sponsors of the bill (HB1087) and spoke to the board about it.
Peterson says legislators want the universities to focus on classrooms.
Peterson says the universities can measure how they implement and manage diversity.
The law takes effect on July first and also mandates the Regents submit a report to the Governor and legislature by December first each year about their intellectual diversity actions.
