PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A bill making revisions to the Uniform Commercial Code that had passed both Houses of the South Dakota legislature with a two thirds majority didn’t survive a veto from Governor Kristi Noem.
Bill sponsor, District 18 Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton says its more of a delay than defeat.
Stevens says more time may help members become more comfortable with the contents.
Opponents pointed to references to crypto currency and a central bank digital currency as problems.
Stevens says it was a big change from the initial passage of the bill.
District 17 Representative Bill Shorma of Dakota Dunes changed his vote.
The UCC revisions referred to crypto currency and a central bank digital currency.
Shorma says his businesses, like most, deals only in dollars.
Shorma says there was also some trust issues with the bill.
During their last day in Pierre Monday, the House sustained the Governors veto on a vote of 30 to 37.
