Rapid City Police reports an officer shooting a suspect on Tuesday

RAPID CITY, S.D.(KBHB) – Rapid City Police say on officer shot a suspect in a no-contact order violation on the 100 block of East Signal Drive Tuesday morning.

Police say the incident began when police were called and asked to remove two male family members from a home on East Signal Drive. Police Chief Don Hedrick said when officers arrived, a man ran from the home.

Hedrick did not say how many rounds were fired and the condition of the individual who was shot has not been released.

Around the same time, another person came out of the home. Hedrick says he had an injury but did not elaborate on what that injury was.

According to police, the suspect had five active warrants and was actively violating the no-contact order.

Hedrick calls this a disturbing trend.

Because it is an officer-involved shooting, the investigation is being conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.  Attorney General Marty Jackley says one person has died, but didn’t say if it was the suspect or the second individual involved.
