State Golf Titles Decided in Pierre, Rapid City & Watertown

Class AA [Girls] State Championship(s) @ Hillsview GC (Pierre, SD) 

  • The AA State Championship(s) wrapped up on Tuesday in Pierre and Aberdeen Central turned in a terrific performance, collectively. The Golden Eagles finished just three shots behind first place Mitchell. Olivia Braun put to wraps her freshman campaign finishing in 3rd place just a few shots back of first place Allison Meyerink of Mitchell & Bryn Huber of Huron, who tied for first place. Huber would be the medalist for the day, as she defeated Meyerink in the playoff. Huber was five shots back of first place after day one, but made a furious charge to claim the crown. Aberdeen Central saw Emma Dohrer finish tied for 9th place as she shot +11 over par for the tournament. Morgan Jones & Leah Gough, in addition to Braun & Dohrer were named all-state golfers.

Class A [Girls] State Championship(s) @ Meadowbrook GC,(Rapid City, SD) 

 

  • Out west in Rapid City, the Class A golf championship(s) wrapped up with the Chargers of Sioux Falls Christian collectively taking home top honors. As for the Cavaliers of Aberdeen Roncalli, they would finish in 8th place as a team; also of note, the Tigers of Groton Area would finish in 12th Individually, after leading by one stroke heading into day two, freshman Claire Crawford would finish in 6th place. Rylan Horning of St. Thomas More would be one of only two golfers to shoot in the 70’s. Horning shaved eight strokes off her game from Monday to Tuesday, she would be the medalist for t he tournament. Olivia Sorlie of Canton placed second. Carly Guthmiller of Groton Area finished tied for 12th place after shooting an 85 on Tuesday, improving five shots from Monday. Grace Seyer & Morgan Helms of Roncalli finished in 51st & 54th, respectively.

Class B [Girls] State Championship(s) @ Cattail Crossing (Watertown, SD) 

 

  • From Cattail Crossing in Watertown, the Chester Flyers would spread their wings to a first place team finish; they placed five shots ahead of second place Bison/Hettinger/Scranton. The Rustlers of Miller put together a solid tournament, as a team and as individuals. Miller would finish in 3rd place as a squad & a pair of freshman would tie for 3rd Jayce Pugh & Kaihlyn Anderberg shot a collective +14 over par in the two day stretch. Also of note, Clark/WL’s Brynn Roehrich placed in second; she was 5 strokes off first place Allison Kahler from Bison/Hettinger/Scranton, who shot +7 over par for the tournament. Other regional squads of note, Faulkton placed 10th and Selby Area tied for 11th & Webster Area in 15th.

Class B [Boys] State Championship(s) @ Prairie Winds (Watertown, SD) 

 

  • From Prairie Winds in Watertown, in class B boys golf, it was a runaway. Gregory coasted for the team title as they were 29 strokes ahead of 2nd place Hanson. However, Hanson, Sully Buttes, Ethan and Ipswich, who finished 2nd through 5th, respectively were only separated by collectively six shots. Eli Fogel of Gregory was the medalist, carding a +7 over par for the tournament. Only one stroke behind him was Wyatt Larson of McIntosh. Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes was only 2 shots back of first and there was a four way tie for 5th place, featuring local golfer Tray Hettick of Selby Area & Jace Knosor of the Ipswich Tigers was only one shot behind the Wolverine.
