[Game 2]
- On Monday from Rapid City, The Aberdeen Smittys took their show on the road to battle the Post 320 Stars and they would earn a split of the doubleheader, losing game one, 3-2 and winning game two, 12-7.
- In game one, it was a low scoring pitchers dual and neither offense was able to break through. Phillip Zens went six innings strong and only surrendered four hits, he did surrender three runs but none of them were earned; Zens also struck out eight. In the field, the Smittys erred three times and that helped Post 320 come back in the bottom of the 7th and walk-off Aberdeen with a ‘two spot’ to win. In the loss Drew Salfrank was 2-3 with a walk and the Smittys got their lone RBI from Zane Backous, who was 1-3.
- In game two, much like game one, the Smittys offense was fairly quiet, until the final frame. Trailing 5-3 going into the 7th, the Aberdeen offense would explode for a crooked number nine and they’d earn the 12-7 win. On the hill, Zane Backous picked up the win going six and two thirds innings and fanning eight batters; he also helped his cause at the plate with a pair of RBI. Phillip Zens was 1-3 with two knocked in. Drew Salfrank had a two hit day with another RBI, too. Of the ten batters for the Smittys, they got at least one RBI from eight of them in the comeback victory.
- Aberdeen returns to the diamond today against the Sturgis Post 33 Titans squad for a doubleheader at 4/6p before returning home on Friday against Mitchell Post 18 for a Military Appreciation Game at 5p. Admission is free for active military and veterans.
