PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Prior to the August recess, the U.S. Senate passed their version of the National Defense Authorization Act(NDAA) on a vote of 86-11.  Senator Rounds who is on the Senate Armed Service Committee commented on the passage.

Rounds acknowledge that each chamber does different versions of the NDAA before doing a joint committee to iron out the differences.

Rounds talks how this bill will benefit Ellsworth Air Force Base where the future B-21 Raider will be located.

Rounds talks about his amendment that would prevent countries like China from purchasing farmland in the country.

Rounds acknowledge why China, North Korea, Iran, & Russia were included in the amendment & whether other countries could be added later on.

There are differences between the House & Senate versions of the NDAA.  One was the issue of oversight of funds going to Ukraine.

Rounds acknowledged that some of the social issues in the House bill(teaching of CRT, abolishing DEI, etc), he would like to see in the Senate bill but admitted that it would be a nonstarter for Democrats & still would need 60 votes to clear the chamber.

Congress is scheduled to return from August recess on Tuesday, September 5th.
