BROOKINGS, S.D.(KELO)- South Dakota counties are receiving badly-needed funds to help repair and rebuild culverts and small bridges.
Legislators are studying ways to help financially-strapped county governments…some of which are on the brink of insolvency.
Earlier this summer, Brookings County transportation manager Greg Vavra told lawmakers that some counties are being forced to cut back on road maintenance.
He says the long-term impact of that makes things far worse.
State Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt says over $8-million dollars has just been released to help counties with culverts and bridges.
