STURGIS, S.D.(KBHB) – It was Patriot Day across South Dakota and the nation Monday, as Americans remember and honor those lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America 22 years ago.

The Sturgis Veterans Club held their annual Patriot Day event Monday morning at the Vet’s Club where the American Legion Post 33 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Paha Sapa Post 2730 participated with the Sturgis Honor Guard.

The honor guard fired a salute to those lost in both Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93 – which crashed in Pennsylvania.

Meade County Sheriff Pat West says 9-11-2001 affected everyone – including people from South Dakota.

First Responders on hand at today’s ceremony included members of Sturgis Police, Sturgis Fire, Meade County Sheriff’s Office and Sturgis Ambulance.

Following the program, the Black Hills Post 164 American Legion Riders honored first responders with their annual “Ride to Back The Blue.”

The Ride takes them on a Northern Hills run to recognize Departments for Spearfish, Whitewood, Belle Fourche, Deadwood-Lead, Sturgis, and the counties of Butte, Lawrence and Meade.
