A Great Start for NSU Swimming @ The Y

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) [Day 1] – The Northern State University swim team opened their 2023-24 season Friday evening with a second play relay meet finish versus Southwest Minnesota State, the University of Mary, and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves tallied 104 points to the Mustangs 106, followed by 88 for the Marauders and 86 for the Golden Bears.
WOLVES HIGHLIGHTS
  • Northern kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 300 fly relay with the team of Guusje van Lent, Alexia Hoven, and Lilly Grebner finishing with a time of 3:04.07
  • The Wolves followed with a 3:06.03 victory in the 300 back relay from the squad of Georgy Turner, Mia Fursedonne, and Maddie Gonzales
  • The squad of Tayla Liddle, Annalise Olsson, Hoven, and Haley Osborne brought home an event win in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:18.56; 12 seconds faster than the second place Mustangs
  • Next up was the 500 free relay and a second place finish from the team of Turner, Fursedonne, Brianna Back, and Osborne in a time of 4:52.68
  • The Wolves tallied back-to-back wins in the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay
  • The team of Gonzales, Emma Beavers, Grebner, and Liddle recorded a 4:12.75 400 medley time and the squad of Fursedonne, Olsson, Hilary Sonnabend, and van Lent notched a 1:43.26 200 free time
  • NSU added their final race victory of the evening in the 400 medley IM relay defeating the second place finishers by over 16 seconds; the team of Back, Gonzales, Liddle, and Grebner finished in 4:14.85
  • The evening closed with a third place finish in the 400 free relay as the squad of Osborne, Sonnabend, Turner, and van lent hit the wall at 3:49.89

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) [Day 2]  – The Northern State University swimming team finished their weekend off with dual wins over the University of Mary and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves defeated the Marauders 105-88 and the Golden Bears 110-102.

WOLVES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northern kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Maddie Gonzales, Emma Beavers, Lilly Grebner and Guusje Van Lent, finishing with a time of 1:55.36
  • Alexia Hoven kept the Wolves hot start rolling with a victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:40.57
  • Haley Osborne finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.99
  • The Wolves tallied back-to-back wins in the 50 freestyle and 200 IM
  • Van Lent won the 500 free with a time of 25.11, while Grebner won the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.53
  • Grebner added another race victory in her third event, taking the 100 fly with a time 58.70
  • Gonzales tallied her second first place finish of the day in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.89
  • The Wolves finished the day with a final victory in the 400 freestyle relay, as the team of Osborne, Mia Fursedonne, Tayla Liddle, and Van Lent tallied a time of 3:43.52

UP NEXT
Northern State is scheduled for an Intersquad Meet on October 4 with the time to be announced at a later time. The competition will be held at the Barnett Center Pool.
