TUCSON, AZ (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College Saints baseball team earned their second win of the season and started off the Tucson Invitational Games (TIG) with a 4-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan University. The Saints now move to 2-3 on the year, while the Tigers of DWU fall to 1-3.
How It Happened –
It was a pitching duel between PC’s Chris D’Amico (JR/Grants Pass, OR) and DWU’s Dominique Boerger as neither team was able to produce anything offensively through the first five innings of action. After another scoreless inning in the sixth, the Saints struck three in the bottom of the seventh for the lead.
Jesse Spanglar started things off and in a big way as he reached third base after a dropped fly ball by DWU’s right fielder. Anthony Guzman (SR/Hanford, CA) hit hard ground ball to the outfield to score Spangler for the 1-0 lead. After a Jace Wyatt (SR/Show Low, AZ) single to center field on the next at-bat and a sacrifice bunt by Zane Hunt (JR/San Tan Valley, AZ) who reach base on a fielder’s choice, Kyle Angielski (SO/Regina, SK, CAN) entered the game as a pinch hitter and scorched a 2RBI double to extend the lead up to three.
The Saints sealed the win as they added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the four-run advantage. Angel Faras (SO/Tuscon, AZ) started things off with a blast to deep right field for his first triple of the season, while Spangler grabbed his first RBI of the year with a single to center field to bring home Faras.
The Saints knocked out seven hits with Anthony Guzman and Jace Wyatt leading the way with two. Angel Faras, Jesse Spangler (SR/Holbrook, AZ), and Kyle Angielski each added one, while Faras and Angielski added the lone two extra base hits with a triple and double respectively.
Joey Wollman (JR/Aberdeen, SD) earned the win for the Saints as he surrendered one hit, two walks and striking out four Tigers. Starter Chris D’Amico threw five scoreless innings, while Jesse Spangler earned his first save of the year.

TUCSON, AZ (PCSaints.com) – The Presentation College pitching staff helped secure a 6-1 win over the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan yesterday from Tucson. The Saints held the Tigers hitless through the first seven and two-thirds innings until DWU’s Rodriguez singled on a line drive to center field. The Saints – who defeated DWU on back-to-back nights to start 2-0 in Tucson – improve to 3-3 on the year, while the Tigers fall to 1-5.
How It Happened –
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings on Saturday night until the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Saints tagged on one run during the third and sixth inning off the bats of Angel Faras (SO/Tuscon, AZ) and Jace Wyatt (SR/Show Low, AZ).
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers finally recorded their first hit of the game and it was a big one as Rodriguez’s single to center field drove in DWU’s Bakley to cut the Saints’ lead in half.
However, during the top of the ninth inning, the Saints walked in – literally – three runs with the bases loaded, along with a sacrifice fly by Jesse Spangler (SR/Holbrook, AZ), for the 6-1 lead. Kyle Angielski (SO/Regina, SK, CAN) started the inning off with a single to left field and moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by Zane Hunt (JR/San Tan Valley, AZ). Gilbert Aguilar (FR/Tucson, AZ ) followed with a single of his own to move Brandon Morris(SO/Surprise, AZ) – who pitch ran for Angielski – to third. DWU’s pitching struggled to find the strike zone as they walked the next four PC batters for the first three runs of the inning. Spangler recorded the final run of the four-run inning as he blasted one out to left field for the sacrifice fly to bring home Eric Hernandez (SR/Gilbert, AZ).
The Saints outhit the Tigers 7-2 in the contest with Eric Hernandez and Gilbert Aguilar leading the way with two hits. Johnny Radomskiy (JR/Chino Hills, CA), Angel Faras, and Kyle Angielski rounded out the final three hits, while Radomskiy (2), Angel Faras (2), Jace Wyatt, Gilbert Aguilar, Kyle Showalter (JR/Norco, CA), and Eric Hernandez recorded the eight walks in the win.
BJ Wyche (FR/Las Vegas, NV) earned his first win as a Saint as he threw five hitless innings and striking out two. CJ Canfield (JR/Rochester, WA) and Austin Crain (JR/Duarte, CA) pitched the final four innings as they surrendered two hits while striking out three.

TUSCON, AZ (GC.com) Presentation College Saints watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 4-2 loss to Briar Cliff on Sunday. Briar Cliff took the lead on a groundout in the first inning.
In the first inning, Briar Cliff got their offense started. Sawyer Olson grounded out, scoring one run.
Briar Cliff scored three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by Briar Cliff was led by Ben Pigg and Nick Robinson, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Harrison Jestel was the winning pitcher for Briar Cliff. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out three. Kaiona Navas and Connor Christiansen entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Colin Crandall took the loss for Presentation College Saints. He allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out two.
Jace Wyatt led Presentation College Saints with two hits in three at bats. Presentation College Saints was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Zane Hunt made the most plays with four.
Pigg went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Briar Cliff in hits. Briar Cliff didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brady Harpenau had the most chances in the field with six.

TUSCON, AZ (GC.com) Presentation College Saints’s effort to come back from down six runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Briar Cliff on Sunday. Presentation College Saints scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Eric Hernandez, a single by Gilbert Aguilar, a double by Jace Wyatt, and a single by Zane Hunt.
Presentation College Saints fell behind early in the loss. Briar Cliff scored on a single by Sawyer Olson in the first inning and a single by Dylan Speer in the second inning.
Briar Cliff got things moving in the first inning. Olson drove in two when he singled.
Presentation College Saints notched five runs in the seventh inning. Presentation College Saints batters contributing to the big inning included Hernandez, Aguilar, Wyatt, and Hunt, who all drove in runs.
Dalen Blair earned the win for Briar Cliff. He allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out five. Kaiona Navas, Connor Christiansen, and Tyler Williams all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Navas recorded the last out to earn the save for Briar Cliff.
Chris Wulf took the loss for Presentation College Saints. He lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out two.
