A total of 14 firearms stolen in Rapid City area

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KBHB) — The Rapid City Police Department says today that a string of thefts yesterday and today have resulted in an additional 14 firearms being stolen here in the Rapid City area.

Brendyn Medina of the police department talked about the situation.

The most alarming thefts happened early Sunday and again early today at PAWN WITH US pawn shop at 406 East North Street. At 4:45 a.m. Sunday, two males broke into the store and stole four AR-15-style rifles. Then this morning at 5 a.m., another alarm came from the same store.

Police say that in addition to the pawn shop robberies, there were three more firearms stolen from unlocked vehicles in Rapid City. That’s in addition to five other gun thefts from cars over the past three weeks.

Medina says lawful gun owners in town have to take serious action to safeguard their guns at all times.

Anyone with information about the gun thefts over the last few weeks should call Detective Chris Holbrook at 394-4134, or text “RCPD” and the information to 847411, the confidential tip line.
