ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) – The Wings picked up a big win Friday night, but were unable to complete the comeback Saturday to split the weekend at home vs. St. Cloud.
St. Cloud jumped out early with a Keaton Orrey goal just over 5 minutes into the contest. Cumming and Bradley assisted on the goal. Weston Turner would have the answer from the point for the Wings late in the 1st, taking a 1-1 tie into 1st intermission. Gravink and Holmstrom assisted on the goal. The 2nd was all Aberdeen as Jackson Anderson gave the Wings the lead at the 16:19 mark of the period with Koupal and Vahakangas assisting. Grant Kohnen would add another under a minute later from Holmstrom and Pollock. Niklas Miller would make things interesting early in the 3rd Munoz and Hatic getting the assist. But Kohnen would get his 2nd of the game with an empty net to give the Wings a 4-2 win. Pollock and Tishkevich assisted on the goal. Dybal was solid in goal stopping 33 of 35.
Saturday was a similar story with St. Cloud getting an early 1st period goal off the stick of Hagen Moe, Cummings and Miller assisted. This time Logan Gravink would tie the game late in the 1st, Sharun and Anderson assisting on the goal from the slot. After a scoreless 2nd period it was Michael Coleman getting the game winner for St. Cloud just 6 minutes into the 3rd. Munoz and Miller assisted. Kochendorfer stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced.
