PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Labor Day holiday weekend is bringing the last hoorah for summer.  Shawn Steward with Triple A South Dakota says holiday travel throughout the year has remained active and expects that to continue one more time.

Steward says Labor Day brings about a shorter, more compact travel window.

Gas was nearly a dollar cheaper last Labor Day weekend at 2.99 a gallon, but Steward says higher fuel costs are a deterrent to vacation travel.

Labor Day travel costs this year are seeing flights up two-percent; hotels up nine and tours increasing 12-percent.  Cruise prices are down four-percent with rental vehicles down eight-percent.
