ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen City Council held a work session on Monday addressing the two-way Main Street. Following their presentation, citizens were allowed to comment both in favor and oppose to the project.
Proponents:
Group leading the case for this project is the Aberdeen Downtown Association. Executive Director Alexa Sheldon talks about how this will attract more business to downtown locations and enhance safety.
Spencer Sommers who Alexa is referring to talks about trying to make downtown more vibrant.
Jim Thares has investments on properties downtown. He talks about the main purpose of downtown businesses.
Josh Latterell discuss his overall support of this plan.
Opponents:
Leann Frederickson who spoke in last week’s city council meeting talks about a survey she did the past week.
Drew Shepherd who also spoke last week talks about the council needs to be fiscally responsible.
Brent Fischer who previously spoke to the council about his opposition once again addressed the concern about safety.
Shirley Lacher feels the money can be better spent on other projects including one close to where she lives.
City Council will address their city budget next Monday that include funding for the two-way Main Street.
