ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- At last week’s Aberdeen City Council meeting, the county put a moratorium in place on data center for November 18th, 2026.  Aberdeen City Attorney Ron Wager(Wag-er) went over the timeline to addressed at this week’s meeting.

Wager broke it down to three groups.

After deliberation by the council, it was determined the groups will use the following dates.

Those most familiar with data centers will be Monday, August 17th.  That is a regularly scheduled meeting.

Aberdeen local businesses will be Monday, August 31st which will be a special meeting.  Normally no meeting is scheduled on the fifth Monday of a month.

The third group which involves the general public will be Monday, September 14th which will also be a special meeting.  Again the council don’t normally meet on the second Monday in each month.

Wager told the council what happens next after gathering information.

After they all have their say, Wager goes over the next step in the process which is to work on the ordinance to send to the Planning Commission.

Wager told the council the date when the Planning Commission and when the first reading on the ordinance would take place.

Wager told the council that it may take a number of changes needed for the data center ordinance to be put into law.

Best case scenario would be to put the ordinance in place by November 25th.
