ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- On Monday night, the Aberdeen City Council heard issues dealing with homelessness and housing in the city.

During the open forum, Melanie Bobby with the Aberdeen New Start Program talked about how many are homeless in Aberdeen.

Bobby offered suggestion of putting up an emergency shelter heading into the fall and winter season.

Bobby wanted to credit the citizens of Aberdeen for their generosity.

Aberdeen City Manager discussed the idea of establishing an emergency shelter in the city.

Also in the meeting, Aberdeen Economic Development Manager Amber Schwab provided an update on the housing situation in Aberdeen.  She started by addressing the workforce in the city.

Schwab told the council about looking to establish new lands for development.

Schwab also is looking into established locations they can use to create homes.

They are also planning on doing tours of other locations of similar size to see how they address housing issues.
