Aberdeen City Council did work session dealing with former Presentation athletic facilities

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen Insider)- Fees have yet to be finalized for former Presentation College athletic facilities soon to be purchased by the city, but a baseball tournament has already been scheduled.

A 13-and-under indoor wood bat tournament called Dakota Daze was mentioned Monday, Nov. 27 during a work session before the Aberdeen City Council’s regular meeting. The session was to discuss rental rates and programming related to the dome and Strode Center.

The city announced an agreement with the Presentation Sisters earlier this year involving its purchase of parts of the Presentation College campus, including the dome, Strode Center, nearby fields and undeveloped property. While the city has approved a lease agreement, which allows city use of the property until the transaction is final, no action has been taken on a purchase agreement, nor has a purchase price been discussed in open session.

No action can be taken during a work session, so it was just for discussing the facilities.

Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Mark Hoven said the target date for having them ready for use is Dec. 4. The Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Board is expected to take action on the rental rates during its board meeting on Dec. 6.

Hoven and Recreation/Aquatics Supervisor Travis Lemer presented information to the council Monday. Hoven reviewed the proposed budget, and Lemer reviewed fees and other considerations.
