ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen City Council elected their Deputy Mayor and liaisons for the 2026- 2027 year.

Current Deputy Mayor Alan Johnson:

The council unanimously elected Johnson to remain Deputy Mayor for another year.

Next they addressed liaisons for the various boards used the council.

Johnson informed them that Councilman Talmage Ekander who was unable to attend the start of the meeting, wanted to join the Parks & Rec Board.

Councilman Rich Ward offered to switch with him the Downtown Alliance(Bid #1) for Parks and Rec.

The 2026-27 appointments are:

Mayor Schaunaman and Alan Johnson to the 911 Communications Council

Alan Johnson and David Novstrup to the Airport Board

Erin Fouberg and Rich Ward to the BID #1 (Downtown Alliance)

Chad Nilson to the BID #2 (Hotel Alliance)

David Novstrup to the Aberdeen Convention & Visitors Bureau

Rob Ronayne to the K.O. Lee Library

Talmage Ekanger and Charlotte Liebelt to Parks, Rec, & Forestry

Aberdeen City Attorney Ron Wager discussed Open Meeting laws established by the 2026 South Dakota Legislature.

Wager talked about making sure meetings are posted for the public to see.

Wager also went over executive sessions.

No action was needed by the council following the presentation.
