ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- The Aberdeen City Council held a special session Monday night.  The focus was hearing how data centers could impact businesses within the city limits.  The council is working on an ordinance to establish guidelines in place for data centers within the city limits.

Johnson looked back at the meeting held two weeks ago.

One Aberdeen citizen expressed his concerns how data centers could impact the agriculture industry.

The majority of the presentation was done by the CEO of the Aberdeen Development Corporation, Tim Hanigan.

Hanigan talked about the ADC’s stance on ordinance dealing with data centers.

Hanigan broke down how the ordinance can be done into three categories.

Hanigan broke each of them down.  He started with the impact on jobs in the city.  He used a model of a ten megawatt data center.

Hanigan discussed the impact on taxes that can be generated toward the city.

Hanigan moved on to the impact on property taxes within the city.

Real estate agent Melanie Bobby talked about how data centers could have an impact on housing in Aberdeen.

The public will have an opportunity to express their views on data centers on Monday, September 14th at the Aberdeen Civic Theater beginning at 5:30pm.
