Aberdeen City Council rejects the Stencil Group Tif

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Monday night, the Aberdeen City Council discussed the Tif(Tax Increment Finance) #35.

Aberdeen City Manager Joseph Gaa told the council this tif was a little different than other tifs in the past.

Gaa let the council this is categorized as commercial property rather than residential.

Aberdeen attorney Jay Gelhaus feels this would set an unnecessary precedent.

Councilman Clint Rux feels the same way.

Councilman Ron Ronayne feels that this Tif was needed to help the housing market.

Nate Stencil with the Stencil Group reminds the council that the Tif was needed in order to move forward.

The City Council voted the Tif down on a 6-3 vote and Mayor Travis Schaunaman left the Stencil Group a message following the vote.
