ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- Aberdeen City Attorney Ron Wager asked the city council their wish list on what they would like to see in the upcoming data center ordinance.

Councilman Chad Nilson would like to see planning and zoning go beyond the city limits.

Councilman Talmage Ekanger had a list of items he like to include.  One would be for those applying to be transparent with the city.

Councilman Rob Ronayne believes prohibiting data centers is in play.  If data centers do come, he would like to see the ordinance should put pressure on them to abide by them or face strict penalties.(1:04)

Councilman Rich Ward would like to see data centers be involved with the city.

Councilman David Novstrup went to a data center in Utah.  He talked about how they addressed noise.

Novstrup also talked about their water usage which is smaller than some business in Aberdeen.

Councilwoman Erin Fouberg talked about making sure the ordinance can be in place that can be applied years down the road.

Councilwoman Charlotte Liebelt believed those who look to establish data centers should establishing housing needed for employees who want to work there.

Deputy Mayor Alan Johnson acknowledged that data centers are needed.

Johnson believed the best option might be to extend the moratorium on data center.

Resolution to extend the moratorium might be put in as early as next Monday.
