Aberdeen Community Theatre release shows planned for 2025

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)-  The Aberdeen Community Theatre have released the shows planned for their 45th season for 2025.

The shows are the following:

UNCANNY VALLEY

ACT’s entry in the 2025 AACTFest play festivals

UNCANNY VALLEY explores the relationship between a neuroscientist and her subject and asks the question: What defines humanity? Claire creates Julian, a nonbiological “human,” one body part at a time, and teaches him how to act “human.” Julian’s increasingly human-like qualities lead Claire to reveal details about her past. Using insight from new research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robot, UNCANNY VALLEY examines what it means to be truly “human.”

THE LIGHTNING THIEF

A Young People’s Theatre musical

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and multiple monsters hot on his trail. When Zeus’s lightning bolt is stolen, Percy must travel to the Underworld and back, solve the Oracle’s riddle, and prevent a war between the gods. THE LIGHTNING THIEF musical is adapted from the best-selling book of the same name by Rick Riordan and features a thrilling rock score.

Dinner Theatre – onstage at the Capitol Theatre!

This is the saga of men and women over “a certain age” with divorce on their hands, gravity on their bodies, grandchildren on their self-images, and the dating scene on their egos. From empty-nesting to retirement, from divorce to grandparenting and more… THE KIDS LEFT. THE DOG DIED. NOW WHAT? is a humorous and heartfelt take on mid-life challenges.  This musical comedy is ACT’s Dinner Theatre selection for 2025, with 10 performances.

OUT OF ORDER

A riotously funny, chaotic British farce

For government official Richard Willey, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong – when he tries to engage is extramarital escapades with his mistress at a fancy London hotel. Somehow, Richard ends up trying to hide a body and hide his infidelity. All the while, shenanigans ensue as he weaves an increasingly tangled tale to cover it all up. Witty and fast-paced, OUT OF ORDER promises to sweep you along as the plot thickens.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC

ACT partners with NSU for a musical onstage at the Johnson Fine Arts Center

One of the world’s most beloved musicals, featuring cherished songs including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and of course, “THE SOUND OF MUSIC” itself. The inspirational story, based on the real-life von Trapp family singers, follows a Governess, a Baron, and seven children as they grow together in music and joy, before confronting the danger of Nazism as it expands into their beloved Austria.

The Gift of the Magi

ACT’s 2025 holiday show

It’s New York City at the turn of the century; Jim and Della eat potatoes for dinner every night and stuff their boots with newspaper to get by, saving coins as they can. But what about Christmas? Through a strange twist of fate, the young couple finds perfect gifts for one another, but at an unexpected cost.  THE GIFT OF THE MAGI illuminates the true meaning of the holiday. This sweet and joyful retelling of the O. Henry short story includes classic Christmas carols.
