Aberdeen Fire Rescue responds to electrical fire at Roncalli High School

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On November 23, 2021 at 0943 hours, Aberdeen Fire Rescue responded to an electrical fire at Roncalli High School (1400 N. Dakota St). When crews arrived on scene, there was light smoke coming from the area of the main power supply into the main campus on the north side of structure. Staff at Roncalli High School immediately began to evacuate the school and were able to extinguish a small fire using a fire extinguisher. Students were evacuated to another near-by church. Northwestern Energy arrived to further secure power issues. There is minor damage to the exterior of building where electrical arcing occurred. Crews inspected the roof and interior of the building to ensure no additional fire spread. A private electrical contractor was onsite to begin repairs. All staff and students were accounted for throughout the incident and no injuries occurred. Roncalli High School will be without power until repairs are completed.
