Aberdeen Fire Rescue responds to multi-unit garage fire

Aberdeen, S.D.(Press Release) – On November 3, 2021 at 10:26pm, Aberdeen Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire involving a multi-unit garage complex used by apartment building tenants in the 1000 block of 27th Ave NE.

On arrival, fire department crews found heavy fire and smoke conditions involving approximately half of the seven garage units along with vehicles in some.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and keep it from spreading to additional garage units or the nearby apartment complex.  Flammable liquids, propane tank storage and stored ammunition created challenges during the firefighting operation.

One adult male received injuries from the fire and was transported to hospital by Aberdeen Fire Rescue paramedics.

Crews remained on scene for approximately four hours to ensure no additional fire spread or re-kindles occurred.  All tenants were able to return to their apartment building.

The fire remains under investigation, but likely caused by flammable liquids in contact with portable heating unit.
