Aberdeen Fire Rescue responds to multi-unit residential apartment fire

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – On February 18, 2024 at approximately 2;15pm Aberdeen Fire Rescue was
dispatched to a three-story multi-unit residential apartment fire in the 400 block of south Jay Street.

When fire crews arrived, light to moderate smoke was visible from a third floor window. Fire crews were able to locate the fire within the second floor walls that had extended up to the third floor.  Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Several building occupants were evacuated.

One apartment suffered extensive damage while other neighboring units had minor damage to include water and smoke. Two tenants have made temporary alternate living arrangements until repairs are complete. Fire crews remained on scene for about three hours ensuring no embers or other fire concerns were found. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
