ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) – The Wings held on for a 4-2 Saturday win to earn the weekend split and 2 points.
The Wings jumped out early on Friday night with an unassisted shorthanded goal off the stick of Leonid Bulgakov just 3:26 into the game. Minot would respond with a Trevor Stachowiak goal four minutes later. Nikolai Tishkevich would score from a sharp angle midway through the 1st to once again give the Wings a one goal advantage, Turner assisted on the Tishkevich goal. Just two minutes later Zach Reim would get his first goal of the season with Comfort and Wall assisting. Minot would make a goaltending change after the Reim goal. But, late in the first period Jack O’Hanisain would add to his points lead for Minot with a goal to make it 3-2 Wings heading into the break. John Small, for Minot would tie the game in the 2nd with a goal at the 6:36 mark. Minot would get the game winner at the 9:40 mark of the 3rd period when Niklas Ketonen found the back of the net to take the 4-3 Friday win. Croix Kochendorfer stopped 30 of 34 shots on the night.
The Wings would get on the board first on Saturday when Isak Holmstrom scored his 8th goal of the season midway through the 1st period. Gravnik and Turner assisted. But it would be John Small making it even late in the 1st when he scored off a faceoff on the power play late in the period. After a scoreless 2nd, it would be Salvatore Collora getting free and scoring his 1st goal of the season at the 9 minute mark. Vahakangas and Gravnik getting the assist. Weston Turner would add some insurance with an empty net goal at the 18:16 mark of the 3rd, with Vahakangas and Collora assisting. Colby Woogk would make it interesting at the end scoring a power play goal with 15 seconds remaining, but the Wings would hold on for the 3-2 win. Adam Dybal was solid in goal stopping 24 of 26 shots.
