Aberdeen man armed with knife, machete, charged after resisting arrest

ABERDEEN, S.D. (APD Facebook) – At approximately 3:16 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, Aberdeen Police responded to the 2700 block of 3rd Avenue SE for an unknown problem (the call to dispatch did not communicate any detail).

When the officer attempted to make contact at the residence, she was greeted by a male subject armed with a knife and a machete. The male resisted arrest and ultimately fled out the back door of the residence.

As the subject entered a parked van, an officer deployed a bean bag round striking him in the right arm. Another officer deployed a taser on the subject. The officers managed to remove the subject from the van and place him in handcuffs.

Rafelito Souffant Astacio, age 36 of Aberdeen, was charged with simple assault/domestic, bond violation, assault against law enforcement, interference with emergency communications, 2nd degree burglary, obstructing law enforcement, and resisting arrest.

The suspect suffered a minor injury to his right arm.
