Aberdeen man arrested after gun discharges during altercation

ABERDEEN, S.D. (APD Facebook) – At approximately 1:53 a.m. on Nov. 14 officers responded to the east alley of the 100 block of S Main Street for the report of a shot fired.

Investigation revealed that an altercation between males occurred that led to the removal of a shotgun from a vehicle. It was reported that two males struggled over the gun and that it discharged into the ground. At that point the males separated and left the area.

Minor facial injuries were received by one male as a result of a physical assault that occurred prior to the gunshot.

Zachary Taylor Sumner, age 25 of Aberdeen, was arrested and charged with DUI pursuant to this incident.

Officers are still attempting to identify other subjects involved in this incident and the case remains under investigation.
