Aberdeen Parks & Rec to host historic walks in May

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- Come celebrate Historic Preservation Month by participating in a walking tour of the Hagerty and Lloyd Historical District sponsored by the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department on Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m.  Troy McQuillen will lead this leisurely one and a half hour walk through one of Aberdeen’s oldest residential neighborhoods.  People will learn about the history of early Aberdeen settlers as well as architectural styles of the period.  There is no fee for this activity and the tour will begin at the Aberdeen Recreation & Cultural Center (ARCC) Parking Lot. 225 3rd Avenue SE.

People wishing to participate in this tour should put their name on an interest list by Friday, May 5.  The tour will be limited to 15 people.  To put your name on this list or for further information, call the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department at 626-7015.

Celebrate Historic Preservation Month with a Guided Tour of Aberdeen’s historic Main Street.  On this leisurely, one and a half hour plus tour, you will learn the unique history behind the builders, buildings and businesses of Main Street.

The walking tour, led by Troy McQuillen will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m.  The tour will begin at the north parking lot of the Dacotah Prairie Museum.  People wishing to participate in this tour should put their name on an interest list by Friday, May 5.
