ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- On Saturday around 11PM, deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle near the 200 block of S. Park St. The vehicle was occupied by a male subject who they believed to be armed and known to have felony warrants. The vehicle also contained a female passenger. The deputies conducted a high risk stop and members of the Aberdeen Police Department responded to assist.
The female passenger came out of the vehicle, and it was confirmed the male had a firearm. He refused to exit the vehicle. Officers contained the area and began communications with the person. The public was asked to avoid the area, and local residents were asked to stay in their homes while officers worked to resolve the incident.
The Aberdeen Special Response Team responded, and negotiators communicated with the subject. Thankfully around 1:30 am, the call ended peacefully when the subject agreed to come out of the vehicle.
The person was arrested and taken to the Brown County Jail where he is being held for the warrants and several charges related to the incident. We would like to thank the members of the public and the residents of the area for their patience as we worked through this incident.
