ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- the Aberdeen Rural Fire Fighter(ARFF) station #3 performed a scheduled burn ban exercise Thursday.  This fire station is used primarily for the Aberdeen Regional Airport which is about 2 miles from the station.

AARF Coordinator Lieutenant Chris Scott explains how the process works.

Scott talks about how the station uses an app that anybody can use to help them with the process.

Scott talks about if the sirens go off at the airport, the maximum amount of time it takes for the fire station to respond.

Scott talks about the burn exercise that was held on Thursday.

The training consist of around two hours of classroom & two hours of on field training.

Scott talks about the vehicles used for this exercise.

Weather Thursday included strong south winds at around 25-30mph.  Scott believes this made the burn exercise more valuable than if winds were lighter.

The burn exercise performed Thursday is required on a yearly basis based on FAA regulations.
