ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen School Board on Monday night addressed firs readings on a series of policy revisions related to bills passed by the 2026 South Dakota Legislature.
Aberdeen School Superintendent Dr. Becky Guffin went through each of them starting with when elections can be held for school board positions.
Guffin next went over the policy dealing with executive sessions,
Guffin next address the policy dealing with minutes addressing elections.
Guffin next deal with funding for insurance.
Guffin talks about also in the same bill(HB1130) dealt with capital outlay.
Guffin next discuss with curriculum dealing with instructional topics.
Guffin next address the bill dealing with how schools can cope with students with aggressive behaviors.
This bill lead to separate bill(HB1262) that led to 2 million dollar funding for the new therapeutic center that will be near Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They hope to have that ready by this fall.
Guffin next address a policy revision to address medication.
Finally Guffin addressed now requiring coaches to report any illegal activities.
Aberdeen School Board approved first readings on all the policy revisions. Second reading likely to be scheduled on next meeting on Monday, June 22nd.
