ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – Like the 1959 film, “Some Like It Hot” the Aberdeen Smittys offense has stayed white-hot, to the tune of 33 combined runs in a doubleheader sweep of Renner Post 307 on Tuesday afternoon from Fossum Field.
In game one, the Smittys put up a crooked number nine in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. There’s no question, some of the pitchers from Renner Post 307 struggled with control, on the flip side, the Smittys pitchers combined for a no-hitter. That’s right, Zane Backous went two innings and struck out two & Talan Dutenhoeffer came in relief for three innings of work and didn’t surrender a single hit, while striking out four. Another day, more runs batted in for Drew Salfrank; he went 2-4 with two runs scored & three RBI.
In the second game of the day, the Smittys struck early & struck often, to the tune of 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning & then they put on the cruise control. Donnie Soderlund went 2-3 with two runs scored & he knocked in three. Phillip Zens was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored & 4RBI. Jackson Welke earned the win on the hill while striking out two over two and a thirds innings of work.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Aberdeen Smittys up their record to 10-3 & winners of their last eight games. In the (current) eight game winning streak, the Smittys have out-scored their opponents 115-19 and they’ll be back in action this Thursday at Fossum Field against Rapid City Post 320 for a doubleheader at 4/6p on HubCityRadio.com.
