Aberdeen Smittys See Their Season Come to an End

(#6) Renner Post 307     8

(#7) Aberdeen Smittys   2 – LP: Jaden Smith 3IP. 5H. 5R. 4ER. 3K. Phillip Zens 2-2, solo HR & double. Ethan Kjenstad 0-1 RBI.

  • In a win or go home scenario for the Aberdeen Smittys, they would fall short against Renner Post 307 in the class A State Legion Baseball tournament on Wednesday.

  • The Aberdeen offense struck first in the second inning on a Phillip Zens solo HR to put the Smittys up 1-0, but that would be the final time they held a lead in the contest. Post 307 responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame and then added four in the third and three in the fifth. The Smittys got one run back in the 6th inning, but it was too little, too late.

  • On the hill Jaden Smith took the loss; he went three innings and surrendered five hits, five runs (four of them earned) and he also struck out three. Phillip Zens was a perfect 2-2 with a double and the aforementioned solo HR. Ethan Kjenstad knocked in that final tally late in the game. Defensively Post 307 was perfect in the field with zero errors, while the Smittys committed three.

  • The Smittys see their very successful season come to a close with a final record of 27-18 and their first state tournament berth since 2017.
