Aberdeen University Civic Symphony celebrating 100 years Saturday

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen University Civic Symphony (AUCS) will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a concert entitled, “Happy Birthday, AUCS!”

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Johnson Fine Arts Center on the campus of Northern State.

The event will feature pieces that premiered in 1919 when AUCS was launched.

Christopher Stanichar, Director and Conductor of AUCS and Assistant Professor at NSU, provides the details.

He said there will also be guest conductors.

The final piece, South Dakota, My Dakota, is by Aberdeen native John Cacavas.

Tickets are $18 for adults and free for students. The evening will also include a free pre-concert lecture on the history of AUCS at 6:30 p.m. in Berggren Recital Hall.

The concert is the season opener for the Aberdeen University Civic Symphony. Stanichar said there will be something for everyone at the celebration.
