Aberdeen will host 9/11 memorial ceremony Saturday

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Aberdeen American News)- Aberdeen will be host to one of 60 events aimed at remembering those who were lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Brown County Teen Court in Aberdeen was selected to host a 9/11 Flag of Honor Across America Memorial at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson Fine Arts Center at Northern State University.

Guest speakers will include Mayor Travis Schaunaman and Katherine Grismer, Teen Republican chairwoman. Gov. Kristi Noem will also provide a recorded message.

The event will also include a ceremony remembering 50 of the 2,999 people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the six who lost their lives in the Feb. 26, 1993, attack on the World Trade Center.

The program will include the raising of a 9/11 Flag of Honor featuring the names of all the victims. Per a news release, the Aberdeen ceremony will be part of “the largest national coordinated 9/11 day project in America in remembrance of the 20th anniversary” of the Sept. 11 attacks.
