Aberdeen woman dies from injuries sustained in crash west of Gettysburg

GETTYSURG, S.D. (Press Release) – A second person has died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that happened June 18 west of Gettysburg.

A 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when the driver lost control as the vehicle entered a right-turning curve. The vehicle cross the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2013 Ford F350 pickup.

Joseph Skye, the 35-year-old passenger in the Monte Carlo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver, 24-year-old Mariah LeBeau of Aberdeen, S.D., sustained life-threatening injuries. She was eventually airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where she died Saturday, June 27. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Calen Decker of Gettysburg was the 19-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was wearing a seat belt.

Charges are pending against both drivers.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
