Absentee votes higher in 2026 compare to 2024

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The absentee voter turnout for the 2026 elections are much higher than what it was in 2024.

In 2024, 1,085 Republicans came out to vote.  In 2026 voter turnout was 2,217.  The breakdown by District was 1,715 voters in District 3, 353 in District 1, and 149 in District 23.

One race to look at tonight is the District 3 Senate race which is a rematch of 2024.

Only 953 votes came from absentee.  Katie Washnok had 427 votes compared to Carl Perry’s 426 votes.

Perry went on to win the race on a margin of 52%-48%.  Final vote tally was 1,313 to 1,201.

Polls are opened now until 7pm.  Results will be reported on the Secretary of State’s website beginning at 8pm.
