Active cases continue to increase, no new COVID-related deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s active cases of COVID continued to climb, but there were no new deaths according to figures released today by the South Dakota Department of Health. The state had 564 new cases and 191 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 8,388 (there were 6,062 one week ago). The state’s COVID-related death total remains at 323.

Overall, South Dakota has had 33,836 confirmed cases and 25,125 recoveries There are currently 304 individuals hospitalized in connection with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 32 new cases and eight new recoveries, increasing the amount of active cases to 377. So far, the county has had 1,784 confirmed cases, 1,403 recoveries, and four COVID-related deaths. There are currently 19 people hospitalized because of the virus.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 9,163 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 3,591, and Lincoln County with 2,229. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,267, Brookings with 1,223, Beadle with 1,075, Meade with 795, Hughes with 739, and Clay with 710.
