Active cases increase by nearly 200, three new COVID-related deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state saw an increase of nearly 200 active COVID cases and added three more COVID-related deaths according to numbers released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 793 new cases and 610 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 7,312 (there were 5,188 one week ago). There were also three new deaths – one each in Douglas, Edmunds and Minnehaha counties – increasing the state’s overall death total to 307.

So far, South Dakota has had 31,805 confirmed cases and 24,186 recoveries. There are currently 299 individuals hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 35 new cases and 21 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 326. In all, the county has had 1,685 confirmed cases, 1,355 recoveries, and four COVID-related deaths. There are currently 17 individuals hospitalized because of the virus.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 8,712 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 3,468, and Lincoln County with 2,094. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,206, Brookings with 1,109, Beadle with 1,033, Meade with 773, Hughes with 702, and Clay with 683.
