Active COVID cases drop by nearly 700, two new deaths reported

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state saw its active COVID-19 cases drop by nearly 700, had hospitalizations drop by eight, and added two more COVID-related deaths according to numbers released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 1,011 new confirmed cases and 1,702 recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections by 691 to 16,657. The two deaths move the state’s death total to 821.

South Dakota has had 74,859 confirmed cases and 57,381 recoveries. There are currently 574 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 60 new confirmed cases and 81 recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases to 707. In all, the county has had 3,380 confirmed cases and 2,656 recoveries. There have been 17 COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 19,186 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 7,960, and Lincoln County with 5,099. Other counties totals include Codington with 2,500, Brookings with 2,292, Davison with 2,274, Beadle with 2,178, Lawrence with 1,869, Meade with 1,617, and Yankton with 1,566.
