Active COVID cases drop, five new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The current amount of active COVID-19 cases decreased by about 144 and there were five new deaths, according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The deaths bring the state’s overall total to 223. There were 259 new cases and 398 recoveries (a record since the pandemic began), lowering the number of active infections to 3,684 (there were 2,817 one week ago).

So far, the state has had 21,997 confirmed cases and 18,090 recoveries. There are currently 211 people hospitalized in connection with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 18 new cases and 19 new recoveries, lowering the amount of active cases to 205. So far, there have been 1,223 confirmed cases, 1,014 recoveries, and four total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 6,732 total cases, followed by Pennington County with 2,365, and Lincoln County with 1,385. Other counties totals include Codington with 882, Beadle with 804, Brookings with 771, Clay with 564, and Meade with 548.
