Active COVID cases increase slightly, no new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The amount of active cases rose slightly and there were no new deaths among the totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state reported 198 new cases and 159 new recoveries, pushing the amount of active infections to 3,828 (there were 2,890 one week ago). The state’s death total remained at 218.

So far, South Dakota has had 21,738 cases and 17,692 recoveries. There are currently 209 people hospitalized in connection with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 16 new cases and five new recoveries, increasing the amount of active cases to 206. So far, the county has had 1,205 cases, 995 recoveries, and four total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 6,691 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 2,328, and Lincoln County with 1,363. Other counties totals include Codington with 876, Beadle with 801, Brookings with 768, Clay with 564, and Meade with 542.

There have been 1,371 cases in K-12 schools with 971 recoveries. The breakdown includes 968 students, and 406 staff. There have been 1,329 cases in the state’s colleges and universities with 1,179 recoveries. The totals include 1,263 students, and 66 staff.
